OK, it's a long review but it's about the food and our overall experience = 4.8!!! And let's get this straight if you Yelp BBQ in Clarksburg and Husick's by Forester shows up; you'll be disappointed there's no bbq! Literally, my wife wanted BBQ and there was nothing that smelled like BBQ when we pulled up. Regardless we made the drive and decided to go in to be greeted by old friends who happened to be dining here. Our waiter Leon was fabulous, he's an ambassador for this establishment and understands the menu to the point where you might think he's the chef. Though the menu is small the items available are well prepared where the food shines in every bite. We ordered the beet salad where there is plenty of beets in different forms: sliced & cubed in a very light vinaigrette = tasty (and I'm not a fan of beets). My wife ordered the meat lover's pizza since she wanted "bbq"/meat and I opted to allow Leon to choose between the Chicken Coullette or the hanger steak. The pizza size is a nice portion size (maybe 14") and the cheese has a good stretch when pulling slices a part, but the crust is perfection: crispy & light; I would just eat the crust if that was an option. This was one of the few times I'm glad my wife is diabetic since I get to eat her pizza crust ends . As for the Chicken Coullette (which Leon picked and is noted to serve two people) is soooo good I almost ate the entire dish. The dish consisted of white bean casserole, fennel sausage with toasted bread crumbs topped with chicken confit. After each bite, my mind just wanted more because the fennel sausage does not overwhelm the dish since many sausages can be overly salty. Oooh, the chicken confit was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Even though my wife didn't get her BBQ she did admit that this place won't be a hidden gem for long! We look forward to sharing Husick's with our friends!
What a magical night it was! Yelp has truly opened the door to some incredible friendships and this one was no exception. A fellow friend organized a fantastic group date at Husick's, nestled near the river in Clarksburg. The drive down was absolutely beautiful setting the perfect tone for the evening. We all ordered different dishes and sharing them family-style was a great way to enjoy the meal together. I'm really excited that the chef introduces a new specialty menu every week making each visit feel unique. The night we went, there was live music filling the air and the restaurant was buzzing with energy. Street parking is available along the side and across the road, making it easy to access. Trust me you don't want to miss out on this gem!
Good food by good dudes. From fresh focaccia to crumbly cookies, this home made and fresh trip around the world will have your head spinning in euphoria. Amazing pizza to Peruvian chicken, the rotating special will absolutely have you coming back for regular menu and around the world specials.
Dinner on the Delta with Friends [Clarksburg CA] First of all, the building is cool. It is a historic building first built as a general store. It had a wooden sign that hung by the kitchen area, "Frank Husick Hardware store" and "selling general items." I like that new owner and chef, Matt Brown, kept many of the original details of the building. It was a cold, rainy evening when I met with friends, some 8 of us altogether. There was a live band entertaining the guests, The Anthony Coleman Trio. We enjoyed the jazz music despite the loud volume and we had a great time. We placed our orders at the counter. Normally in an evening without a live band it would be a table service. Most of us ordered (for a limited time only) the featured dishes, Asian-inspired -- Salted Fish Fried Rice (salted cod, chicken, garlic, ginger, veggies, sesame and soy sauce) and Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai. Delicious! Inside was nice and cozy with all table seating (no booths). There were a couple of high table tops too. We occupied a round table. Customer service was excellent. With the open kitchen we could see Matt prepare/cook the dishes. Umbrella covered outdoor patio seating available on nice warm, clear days. Great atmosphere on the Delta, close proximity to great wineries and a stone's throw from Sacramento. Review #3684
Husick's by Forester opened its doors on Sept 13, 2024 under the helm of Chef/Owner Matt Brown. If you've ever dined at The Jungle Bird, Golden Bear, or Bodega Kitchen and Cocktails, chances are good that you've had food prepared by Matt. Although Clarksburg is out in the Delta, it's worth the visit if it's out of the way for you. Located next to the Sacramento River, the building has gone through a few iterations over the century+ years and it's currently a charming tap house and restaurant with the original "Frank Husick Hardware" sign above the kitchen! My friends and I visited on a Friday night during Husick's by Forester's "Around the World in 80 Days" in which they showcase weekly specials from different countries (1/2/25 through 3/19/25). The week's specials were: Salted Fish Fried Rice (with salted cod, chicken, ginger, and veggies), Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai (with black mushrooms, topped with green onions and a sweet soy dipping sauce), and Congee (rice porridge with fried garlic, fried shallots, scallions, and toasted peanuts) to coincide with Chinese New Year. On Friday nights, they feature a band (free music!) and change from table service to counter service. The Anthony Coleman Trio (jazz) were playing when we were there... and wow, they were awesome. All of the staff were friendly and brought our dishes out shortly after ordering. Since they also had their regular menu items, we tried the following: *Salted Fish Fried Rice* - This dish was so well-balanced and the rice was soft and fluffy. It tasted equally delicious the day after as leftovers. *Pork and Shrimp Sui Mai* - Each of the 5 dumplings were over-sized and flavorful - easily better than many of the Sui Mai found at Chinese Restaurants. *The Forester Pizza* (roasted red potato, rosemary, caramelized onions, arugula, chèvre, mozzarella, confit garlic) - The gooey cheese was sublime, the crust was perfectly chewy, and together each bite was amazing. *Hangar Steak* (cooked with garlic and rosemary and came with pickled veggies, fresh focaccia bread, and a slice of cambazola cheese) - The steak was very tender, cooked rare (exactly per our request), and seasoned just right. The de-constructed dish was a bit unusual but worked nonetheless. Heck, the steak even paired well with the fried rice! Ha! Do yourself a favor and check out Husick's by Forester. They're open Wednesday through Friday, from 11 am to 9 pm. Try one or three of their weekly specials. Chef Matt has an outstanding repertoire and executes dishes like nobody else.
Great food and beer selection and casual super friendly atmosphere. They really know how to make you feel welcomed! A gem!!!
We had lunch here on a chilly Saturday. Loved the spot along the river. It was "Brazil" week, so we tried the specials. The seafood soup was delicious; only drawback was the smallish portion. The bean/pork stew had lots of flavor and was ample. Would have been nice to have some grilled bread to soak up the sauce on both entrees. Saw pizza, sandwich and salad options at nearby tables. Well presented and sizable. It's a former hardware store. High ceilings make it very LOUD. We sat at a table near the window and had to shout to hear each other. Not sure what they can do with this cavernous place but it's an issue. Will return on a warm day to sit outside with a brewski.
Really great new restaurant in Clarksburg! Their pizza is excellent. He has started a new weekly specials, around the world in 80 days. I'm gonna go in every week unless I'm not here! The food is so high-quality and reasonably priced. Gonna support this place for sure!
The Atmosphere and Ambiance: Walking into this charming rustic wood restaurant, you're immediately welcomed by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The earthy wooden decor, soft ambient lighting, and the subtle scent of herbs create a cozy, homey vibe that feels perfect for a relaxing meal. The front patio, complete with comfortable seating and views of the river, adds an extra touch of delight. Whether you're dining in to enjoy the ambiance or just passing by, this place catches your attention and invites you to linger a little longer. The Food: I started with the Salsa di Parmigiano as my appetizer. The toasted crostini is a perfect choice and blend well with the flavors. The cheeses blended with the garlic, shallots in a quality olive oil make it a very nice starter, the ingredients were clearly fresh, and the flavors balanced perfectly. My first main course was the Crispy Beluga Lentils. This dish brings a symphony of flavors and textures, starting with perfectly cooked beluga lentils that are crisped to a delicate crunch. Enhanced by the aromatic blend of sautéed shallots and garlic, each bite is layered with the savory depth of soppressata. Fresh parsley adds a touch of brightness, while a rich romesco sauce lends a smoky, nutty undertone, finished with a generous shaving of Parmesan. My second main course was the Hangar Steak. This expertly prepared hanger steak is cooked to perfection. Served alongside pickled vegetables that add a zesty contrast, the dish is complemented by slices of fresh focaccia bread and creamy Cambazola cheese for a touch of indulgence. What sets this dish apart is the custom plate designed specifically for it: the steak is placed on a unique section that guides the meat's natural juices down a carved path to a small reservoir containing a single roasted garlic clove and a sprig of rosemary. This allows the juices to blend with the aromatics, creating an irresistible dipping spot for the focaccia, enhancing each bite with layers of flavor. I had also ordered two pizzas to take home: a classic pepperoni and a margherita (I forgot to take pictures of the margherita, ops!). Both were baked to perfection with a thin, crispy crust and generous, flavorful toppings. The pepperoni had a slight spice kick, while the margherita was fresh and aromatic with basil and mozzarella. On the top of the good food and ambience, the staff is really nice, friendly and so kind. Whether dining in or taking food to go, this spot delivered an amazing experience, go check it out!
Food: 4/5 The Char: 4/5 Really solid pizza with goat cheese, pear, red onions, bacon, olive oil & balsamic vinegar. Wish the goat cheese was a bit stronger but with some ranch it made it pretty great. Service: 5/5 Super friendly lady at the front helped us out and made us welcome on a super hot day. Ambiance: 5/5 Cute place in a cute town! They have indoor & outdoor seating. Will be back when I'm around town!
